The art direction for this part was amazing. Even though it was slightly telegraphed Lilan might save Erin, my heart still seized up when those jaws closed around Erin, and it was powerful when it pulled back to reveal it was Lilan coming to rescue her from the swarm.
The distrust and conflict between them isn’t enough to destroy Lilan and Erin’s bond. Lilan does not want the woman who raised her and loved her to die. Instinct is the strongest thing here, and this animal’s instinct is to save her mother, just like Erin’s instinct was to save hers. She somehow understands that Erin wanted the best for her, and now the silent whistle has dissapeared in the swarm of Tohdas. Lilan won;t be controlled anymore.
