I absolutely loved your Utena reviews! they really helped me get a better grasp of the themes bc its such a tricky symbolic show. i do have a question though, did you watch the dubbed or the subbed version and where? bc i can only find the dubbed version and there seems to be things that are in your reviews that aren’t in the dubbed version ?

I’ve never watched the dub all the way thorough, because the voices great the hell out of me. It has the reputation of being a pretty terrible dub. They didn’t even really understand the material, the dub directors needed Crispin Freeman to explain to them Juri was a lesbian (and didn’t believe him initially!) even though the show PRETTY MUCH SPELLED THAT OUT. So yeah, it’s not good, though the movie is supposed to be somewhat better since Ikuhara came down to work with the actors.
